CURRENT AND UPCOMING GUESTS
May 7 NICK REDFERN and the Loch Ness Monster
Uncanny
Radio proudly presents a 2-part conversation with British (now Texas-based)
author and former co-editor of Phenomena Magazine Nick
Redfern
.
With summer coming it seemed a great time to talk about water monsters, and
we begin by tossing around Nick's theories ... and experiences... at Loch
Ness, Scotland.
Is the Loch Ness monster, or Nessie as it is best known, a flesh and blood animal or some sort of spirit water guardian? Is it possible to "conjure up" a water monster? Nick discusses his attempt to do so, along with sorting out many other theories about the creature's possible origins. It was impossible to cover the entire topic in 40 minutes, so we will be having Nick back again very soon for Water Monsters Part II.
Some of Nick's other books include Memoirs of a Monster Hunter, Body Snatchers in the Desert, and a new book coming out this summer titled "Something's in the Woods" based on his popular blog of the same name.
Podcast: 013 Nick Redfern Part One
Nick will return May 14 for Part Two to discuss recent Center for Fortean Zoology expeditions in search of giant fish and lake monsters; official British Royal Navy files I uncovered on 19th Century reports on sea serpent sightings; a new book from the CFZ on sea serpents titled "In the Wake of Bernard Heuvelmans" and quite a bit more.
APRIL 30,
Steve Cook, creator of "The
Legend" and investigator of the Michigan Dogman,
discusses recent sightings and the Gable film
Steve
Cook is a 27 year veteran of the radio industry and a freelance writer. In
1987, he deployed a lifelong interest in folklore creatures and ghost stories
to create a song entitled "The Legend." The verses of the song spin the tale
of a half-man, half-dog creature that roams the woods of northern Michigan,
primarily in the seventh year of each decade. Originally intended as an April
Fool's joke, the reaction to the song surprised everyone at the station. After
it aired, calls began pouring in from people claiming to have seen a creature
exactly like the one described in the song. So began a two-decade search for
the real Michigan dogman - a search that has uncovered startling evidence
that it may not be a myth. Some of that evidence is revealed for the first
time in "The Legend - Legacy Edition," a CD/DVD set released that is part
entertainment, part investigative journalism. Released by MindStage Productions,
the Legacy Edition features the latest versions of "The Legend" and "The Sigma
Story" songs, three chilling ghost stories, a music video, and "Encounters
- The Evidence," an 18 minute documentary that offers expert analysis of several
photographs and film that claim to show the Michigan dogman in the flesh (or
fur - as it were). Proceeds from the sale of the Legacy Edition are donated
to animal rescue groups in northern lower Michigan. For complete details about
"The Legend" and the new Legacy Edition CD/DVD set, please visit http://www.michigan-dogman.com
